Reverend Steven Steinberger-Domienik

The Rev. Steven Steinberger-Domienik brings many skills to his ministry including fifteen years of mental health counseling experience with community organizations. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Detroit (MI) in Communications, a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Cincinnati (OH), a Certificate in Mission and Ecumenism from the Boston Theological Institute (MA) and a Masters of Divinity from the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge (MA).

Before coming to Grace, Pastor Steven served as the Priest-In-Charge at two Episcopal Churches in the diocese of Michigan: St. John’s in Westland and Nativity in Bloomfield Township. Prior to this he was the Priest-In-Charge at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Madison, Connecticut.

Before going to seminary he lived in Cincinnati, Ohio for 20 years. During that time he worked as a mental health therapist, rector search consultant in the Episcopal diocese of Southern Ohio, as coordinator of a young adult Catholic volunteer program, a residential director of a homeless shelter and as a mental health case manager. Steven maintains his licensure as a Professional Counselor in the state of Michigan and is a National Board Certified Counselor.

A native of Detroit, Michigan he grew up in the Roman Catholic Church and joined the Franciscans while in college; this religious order moved him to Cincinnati. After three years he put this vocation aside to be married. He and his wife found a faith home in the Episcopal Church and were active members in their parish. His first wife died in 2005 and Steven married Brenda in 2018.

His daughter Lynnea is a graduate from Smith College (MA) and she currently resides in Chicago, Illinois. Steven enjoys kayaking, sailing, swimming, hiking, singing and cooking.

Music Director, Joshua Dulin

To the spirit that is shared between all those who find refuge, solace, and strength here, I offer my deepest gratitude to have been given the work to lead the music here at Grace and to serve as your Minister of Music. Since 2016, I have witnessed the dedicated work this church has performed within and around this community and I too have felt the same love, support, and encouragement as you welcomed me and so many others. This welcoming spirit has only been recently eclipsed by the spirit of joy that has come forth as I have heard your expressions of excitement for this new chapter. Though it will be different, I am certain that no matter what, God will be glorified and people will be drawn to this one who, as is so powerfully stated in the hymn “ A Touching Place,” to the lost, unloved and in pain, He gives His embrace. Through our work together, I believe this can be achieved not only within the music ministry, but every ministry at Grace.

After serving many, many years as a church musician in my hometown of Battle Creek (when my legs could barely reach the pedals), and then in Hamtramck since 2007, I am now excited to bring this experience (and sound!) to Grace and continue to grow the music department through consistent dedication to “making a joyful noise unto the Lord,” and I hope your heartstrings will be plucked as well! Indeed, as Pastor Steve and I work collaboratively over the next few weeks, eventually I hope to find what music has been placed in your spirit and further develop how the music ministry can help support the leadership goals of our Pastor, grow the church body, and provide witness to the world of the great things that this church is doing in God’s name!

Aside from my church work, since 2019, I have worked as Mortuary Technician/Embalmer at Wayne State’s School of Medicine with the Body Bequest Program and have been a licensed Funeral Director since 2012. I enjoy bicycling (you may catch me cruising “up 16 to Metro” to bike around the beach or around the Riverwalk/Dequindre Cut downtown), attending a variety of live musical shows (from coffeehouse basements to the great music halls our area proudly offers), playing with a growing band (mostly blues and folk tunes), going out to dinner with friends, and simply enjoying my small apartment filled with art supplies and plants (which keep me frustrated more than anything (ha!)). Again, I feel so blessed to be your Minister of Music and am looking forward to helping usher in the spirit of Christ through songs of praise and worship. May God’s name be glorified in everything we do!

See you soon,

-Josh
